Before you go
Before you go away on holiday here are some great money saving hints
and ways of ensuring you have a peaceful safe journey.
- Tell your bank you're going abroad if you plan on using your cards
there. Some banks as a anti-fraud measure may refuse transactions
made abroad.
By telling them in advance then will know not to do this.
By letting them know (in writing is probably best) then you will save
the hassle and expense of phone calls to sort it out.
- Pack your case and repack it. Weight it. Double check the guidelines
for the airport and airline you're using.
- Children don't care where they are if there's a beach or a pool.
Book less expensive resorts for family holidays.
- Take out the right travel insurance package. If you're traveling
more than once an annual policy is the best deal.
- Make sure you have someone keeping an eye on your house to make
sure mail doesn't build up, and have lights come on and off to keep
the burglars out.
- Cancel the milk.
- Book the pets into kennels or double check pet sitters are available.
- Photocopy your important documents and put them in a waterproof
bag inside your case.
- Share clothes between cases. That way if you have a case go missing
you won't be completely without clothes. This is a lifesaver!
- Take medicines you use every day. Ensure your prescriptions are
filled and you have enough of essential medications.
- Double check the date and time of your flight. Have someone else
do it too.
- Currency - get it in advance and check out the options. The more
you are changing the more important it is to get the best deal.
- Home security whilst you're away is important. Ideally you'll have
someone house sit for you, but that's expensive. Cheaper options are
neighbours or friends coming in and picking up the post, free papers,
opening and closing curtains
