Booking a boating holiday

What can you do on a boating holiday?

It depends where you go on your holiday. If you opt for more rural routes then you'll see amazing countryside and wildlife as you slowly go through the rivers and waterways. You'll come across lovely pubs packed with rustic charm and good beer, and you can always stop to enjoy the sunshine or do a little fishing. Going a few miles each day finding the next mooring and navigating are all really enjoyable and makes you feel like you're doing something special. You'll come back relaxed and happy knowing you've had a week at a really leisurely pace.
If you pick a more urban route you can navigate your barge through the canals of great industrial cities seeing them from a completely new angle and exploring some of the industrial heritage that made Britain Great!

You'll find the boat company will ensure you're confident before setting out on your trip and give you basic but thorough training on steering the boat, any safety checks you need to do and how to tie off and moor the boat safely. Some companies have a video available for you to study before you go on holiday, but rest assured it is all very simple. No licence is needed for boat driving - nor is one needed, I know some non-drivers who are very at home on board a boat and in charge!
There are speed restrictions on most waterways though which is something to bear in mind if you're planning to do miles each day you will need to set off first thing and make sure you've timed it to get to a mooring at a sensible time during daylight.

Hoseasons boating holidays are well known for the range of boating adventures they provide and you'll find their prices are very good too.
They have three main types of boating holiday.

Seaside resorts includel: Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth. Along the way enjoy some coarse fishing or boating events.

There are a huge choice of canals and rivers to pick from including: Forth & Clyde and Union Canals, Cambridgeshire Waterways, Cheshire Ring, Heart of England Canals, Kennet & Avon, Llangollen Canal, Oxford & South Midlands Canals, River Thames, River Wey, Yorkshire's Waterways
